Provisional changes to Exeter's race programme for 9 April

The British Horseracing Authority has today announced two provisional new races at Exeter's fixture on Tuesday 9 April. This is because, in light of the current going and weather forecast, the ground may not be suitable for the three steeple chases currently programmed.

Exeter’s ground is currently Good to Firm, Good in places with limited chance of showers in the forecast between now and Tuesday. As such a National Hunt Flat race and a hurdle race have been provisionally programmed. Entries for these two contests as well as the seven existing races will close tomorrow at 12 noon, Wednesday 3 April.

A decision will then be taken on Sunday morning to see if the original seven-race card can go ahead, or whether the three existing chases are replaced by the two new contests to make a six-race card. This would then mean the team there will be able to focus the watering on one course only rather than have to water two courses in order to provide safe jumping ground.

Declarations will be made as usual by 10am on Monday 8 April.Full race details and conditions for all existing and provisional races, as well as further fixture information, will be available via the BHA Racing Admin site www2.racingadmin.co.uk shortly.

Chelmsford City to host new fixture on 1 April to replace Ayr

The British Horseracing Authority (BHA) has today announced that Chelmsford City Racecourse will host a new fixture on 1 April which will replace the one due to take place at Ayr.

Graeme Anderson, Clerk of the Course at Ayr Racecourse, said:

"Following the end of the Flat season at Ayr last October we invested in some new drainage work in the home straight, following which the ground was reinstated and reseeded.

"Unfortunately there has been insufficient growth for the ground to be ready for our scheduled Flat meeting on April 1.

"We are unable to stage a Flat meeting on the hurdles track due to the close proximity of the Coral  Scottish Grand National Festival."

The afternoon fixture at Chelmsford City will be a seven-race card, with entry and declaration deadlines remaining as normal.

Race programme details and further fixture information will be available via the Racing Admin website www2.racingadmin.co.uk in due course.

Six additional fixtures confirmed between 20-28 February

The British Horseracing Authority (BHA) has today announced that six additional fixtures will take place between 20-28 February following the loss of six days of racing due to equine influenza. The fixtures are as follows, with two Flat floodlit fixtures followed by four Jump fixtures:

Chelmsford City - Wednesday 20 February
Wolverhampton - Thursday 21 February
Catterick - Friday 22 February
Uttoxeter - Monday 25 February
Ffos Las - Tuesday 26 February
Musselburgh - Thursday 28 February

Entry and declaration deadlines will be as normal. Race programme, times and further fixture information for both fixtures will be available via the Racing Admin site www2.racingadmin.co.uk shortly.

The BHA has also lifted the restriction on races dividing for all races up until the end of February. This means that courses opting in can divide contests on their originally programmed card up to eight races to provide more opportunities where demand exists.

Paul Johnson, Head of Racing at the BHA, said:

Given the extraordinary circumstances of recent days we were acutely aware of the number of horses that will be needing to run next week throughout all levels of the horse population. As such, we have moved as quickly as possible to add six fixtures next week across both codes.

"Race programmes at these fixtures are being finalised but will reflect feedback from trainers received in recent days and weeks.  Coupled with increased flexibility on divisions at many racecourses, the aim is very much to ensure that suitable opportunities exist for those horses that need them

"Our thanks go to the Horserace Betting Levy Board and the racecourses involved for their help in staging these fixtures so quickly."

Southwell's 18,22,28 February & 5 March fixtures moved

The British Horseracing Authority has today confirmed that four of Southwell's upcoming fixtures have been moved as follows:

18 February - moved to Newcastle
22 February -  moved to Chelmsford City
28 February - moved to Kempton Park
5 March - moved to Wolverhampton

This is because the original fixtures were due to be floodlit and there has been a delay in installing floodlights at Southwell.

The 22 & 28 February fixtures were originally leased from the BHA on a one-year basis and were moved to Chelmsford City and Kempton Park following the usual process for re-offering BHA leasehold fixtures.

All four will remain evening fixtures, with race programme details and further fixture information available via the Racing Admin website www2.racingadmin.co.uk in due course.

Entry and declaration deadlines will remain as previously.
